Smart Cities project in the Times

Prof Mark Deakin, an associate of the CSI and ITC, was quoted yesterday in a Times supplement, where he highlighted the impact of e-Government, which “not only replaces over the counter services with online services available 24/7 but begins to customise them in a way which is personal to the user". He goes on to say: "such a transformation of service provision does not come cheap and while offering many long-term cost savings, has considerable upfront costs, not to mention technical and other culturally- related challenges".

Mark was speaking in relation to the Smart Cities project, which is looking at ways of integrating academic and government people-based networks to allow effective information sharing and turning that into economically viable information and technologies. Edinburgh Napier's involvement is led by the Faculty's Institute for Sustainable Construction.
